Me Myself and Irene | When The Service Is Fruitier Than Your Wine

Ambiente Tapas Bar, York

Tonight’s guest list:

Me, myself, and I.

I came hungry—for more than just food.

Let’s set the scene:

A cozy corner table, flickering candlelight, soft jazz humming through the room. The menu? A Spanish love letter. The wine? Dry, white, and soon to be in danger.

I hadn’t eaten much today. Two apples and a Cutie.

So yes, I’m slapping this wine like it owes me rent.

Starter:

Dátiles con Serrano – sticky-sweet dates wrapped in Serrano ham, served on a bed of rocket like it was posing for a Renaissance painting. One bite in, and I remembered: I love me.

Tapas lineup:

  • Brocheta de Cordero – BBQ lamb skewers so tender they practically slid off the stick and into a prayer.

  • Albondigas con Tomate – meatballs slow-cooked in a rich tomato sauce, the kind that hugs your insides.

  • Brocheta de Pollo con Harissa – harissa-spiced chicken skewers that came highly recommended by the hostess. I didn’t ask questions. I just said yes. That’s love.

Speaking of love—my server might be my secret admirer. He’s a touch fruitier than the wine, with the same haircut as me. With each smile and side eye I receive the service gets better and better. Live Becoming right there.

So Good news. The service is going to be exceptional.

Dessert:

I was full, but the Burnt Basque Cheesecake whispered my name. So I answered. Topped with dark cherries, dusted with snow-like sugar, garnished with a single mint leaf like a green flag in a black-and-white dream.

A soft end. Sweet, but not needy.

Exactly how I like it.

So here I sit, in a restaurant full of murmurs and glasses clinking, not sharing a single bite. And it feels kind of perfect.

Some dates bring butterflies.

Others bring Serrano ham and flirty banter with men.

Tonight, I got both.

And I’d do it again tomorrow.

P.S.

That lamb never stood a chance.

Cut straight down to the bone.

Some things are too tender to last.

But my god—what a taste to remember.

i needed the lamb.
