There are some stories you write.
And then there are stories that quietly build a home inside your heart before you ever write the first chapter.
The Hearth at Maple Cove became that kind of story for me.
People often ask where Maple Cove came from, and the truth is, I didn't just want to create another fictional town. I wanted to create a place people could return to whenever life felt overwhelming. A place where the coffee is always warm, neighbors know your name, front porches are never empty for long, and hope still has a way of finding people.
That desire is what led me to create Grace's Table.
☕ Why Grace's Table?
Every small town has that one place where everyone eventually gathers.
For Maple Cove, it had to be Grace's Table.
More than a restaurant, Grace's Table became the heart of the town. It's where strangers become friends, difficult conversations turn into healing, and laughter echoes over steaming mugs and homemade meals. If Maple Cove has a heartbeat, it's found around those tables.
My hope is that every reader will feel like they've pulled up a chair of their own.
🏡 Designing Maple Cove
Building Maple Cove was one of my favorite parts of writing the novel.
I wanted every street, storefront, and front porch to feel as though it had been there for generations. From Grace's Table and The Pie Shelf to Goodlett's Grocery, Wild Wren Flower Shop, and Maple Cove Chapel, every location was created with intention.
I wanted readers to know exactly where they were standing as they walked through town, almost as if they could unfold a map and find their way around without ever leaving home.
🍁 Where the Characters Came From
Every character arrived carrying their own story.
Some appeared almost immediately, while others took time to reveal themselves.
Lori Grace's journey became one of rediscovering hope after unexpected loss.
Micah Elliott's story grew into one of quiet strength, restoration, and learning to trust again.
Even the supporting characters—from Junie at The Pie Shelf to Bernice and Sam Goodlett—were written to feel like neighbors you'd be happy to run into on an ordinary afternoon.
I wanted every resident of Maple Cove to matter.
❤️ The Places That Inspired Me
Although Maple Cove is fictional, it was inspired by something very real.
I've always loved cozy small towns where people slow down long enough to wave from the front porch, where church bells still ring on Sunday mornings, where local shops know your favorite order, and where autumn seems to linger just a little longer than anywhere else.
Those places reminded me that home isn't simply where we live.
Sometimes, home is where we're reminded that we're loved.
That is the feeling I wanted Maple Cove to leave with every reader.
