About Me

August 5, 2021 started like any other day. Then I looked in the mirror.

Something wasn't right.

Water was streaming from my left eye, and the left side of my face felt strange and unresponsive. I went to brush my teeth, but every time I filled my mouth with water, it poured right back out. I couldn't hold it in. I couldn't control it.

Panic set in immediately.

Within hours, I was sitting in the emergency room looking for answers.

The diagnosis came after waiting in the ER for 14 hours: Bell's palsy.

I was devastated.

Questions flooded my mind. Would my face ever return to normal? Would my smile come back? How long would this last? Was this permanent?

What surprised me most was what happened next.

I was sent home with very little guidance. No roadmap. No step-by-step recovery plan. No clear explanation of what the next few days, weeks, or months might look like.

I was left to figure it out on my own.

So that's exactly what I did.

I spent countless hours researching, watching videos, reading medical articles, joining support groups, and learning from others who had gone through the same experience. I tried facial massage, exercises, acupuncture, eye protection techniques, nutrition strategies, stress management, and every recovery tool I could find.

Over time, I regained about 90% of my facial function.

But my journey wasn't without challenges.

Because I didn't fully understand the importance of early intervention and proper facial retraining, I later developed synkinesis, a condition that can occur when facial nerves heal incorrectly. Looking back, there were important things I wish I had known during those first critical days and weeks after my diagnosis.

Things that might have made my recovery smoother.

Things that could have helped me avoid some of the complications I experienced.

That is why I created Finding Your Smile Again.

This is the resource I wish someone had handed me on Day One.
