VINOD VARGHESE ANTONY

Vinod was born in Kerala and brought up in Mumbai. He had his elementary education from St.Paul's High School, Malwani, Mumbai. He was a back bencher and poor in his studies. He always got scolding for not performing well in his academic life. His father, Mr. Varghese, a learned man, tried his best to help him in his studies, but failed eventually. His mother was an illiterate and sister who didn't care lot about him. He was in grade 8th when his father passed away in an accident. This became a turning point in his life. The family went to back to their native place, because they can't live in Mumbai without an earning pillar in the family. Vinod didn't have any improvement in his academic life even joining the school, S.V.V.Nilayam HSS Neyyattinkara. He was still having difficulty in understanding his skills. After completing his 10th grade, his neighbour, a widower, had a misconception that he is good at studies and can help her son in his studies. Vinod took this opportunity and started teaching as a professional. He was a failure in that too. But he didn't give up. He worked hard as he was also getting some amount of money from it and he felt empowered. While at the same time he continued his studies and kept taking tuitions. When he started making money, he had the urge to make more and so he also started working as a newspaper boy. His students grew in number from one to three. His monthly earnings started growing. He discovered that even he can learn and learnt how to learn. He worked in a hotel near his home and the people recognized him as a family man who takes care of his family. The family was then under financial issues. He knew that now it is his duty to take care of the family, his sister’s marriage and their futures. Vinod successfully completed his 12th grade with good marks but unfortunately didn’t get admission in any college. So he joined a parallel college and pursued English language and literature as his main subject, because he was good at the subject, during his school days in Kerala. He used to go to the parallel college and at the same time he used to take tuitions and during holidays, he worked as a salesman in many shops. He worked day and night to support his family. It was during his second year of his college life that he found some books of Swami Vivekananda. Vivekananda’s teachings helped him to have a deeper understanding of life. He started to view life in a different perspective. He started reading different books on Philosophy, psychology, theology and literature. His interest in literature gave him a new life. He was now a recognized English tutor in the society. During his third year of his college life his sister got married. He completed his graduation in English Language and literature with second class and got admission in VTM NSS college Dhanuvachapuram for M.A. English in merit list. Vinod was now earning to sustain his family and was living happily. He joined many prestigious private educational institutes of his locality and was a renowned English teacher. He worked as a freelancer for many government projects including KASE (Kerala Academy for Skill Excellence) and DDU-GKY. He worked as Skill Development Executive in ASAP (Additional Skill Acquisition Programme), a government of Kerala Undertaking. He completed his master degree with first class and also graduated Cert.TESOL from Trinity College London in 2016. Vinod used to write poems during his college days. He desired to publish his poems one day, as he wanted himself to be called as a poet. In December 2017 his dreams were fulfilled. His first collection of poems, 'A Candle Of Light' was published.
