A gentle reminder that joy and sorrow can exist together.
Some days, happiness catches us by surprise.
A song comes on that makes us smile. Someone says something that makes us laugh a little harder than we expected. For a moment, life feels lighter.
And then, sometimes, a strange feeling follows.
Guilt.
As though enjoying the present means we've forgotten what we've been through. As though having a good day somehow makes the difficult days less meaningful.
But I hope you remember something.
You are allowed to experience joy without feeling guilty for the things that still hurt.
You can miss someone and still make beautiful new memories.
You can be healing and still have days when everything feels heavy.
You can be grateful for the life you're living while wishing certain parts of it had turned out differently.
None of those feelings cancel each other out.
I think sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to make sense of everything we're feeling that we forget we're allowed to simply be human.
And being human means carrying more than one emotion at a time.
So if something makes you smile today, let it.
If you find yourself laughing, don't rush to quiet it.
If a little moment of happiness finds its way into an otherwise difficult season, you don't have to question whether you deserve it.
You do.
The good moments don't erase the hard ones. They simply remind us that there is still room for beautiful things.
And maybe that's something worth carrying with us today.
A Moment to Reflect
What's one small thing that brought you joy recently, even if life has felt a little heavy?
With love,
What We Carry 🤍
