From Scribbles to Self-Published: My Journey Writing The Ache Between Us

I never planned to write a novel. Or maybe I did, somewhere in the back of my mind, in the quiet place where all the things we're afraid to want live. But when I finally sat down and started writing, I realised this wasn't just a story I wanted to tell. It was a story I needed to tell.

The Ache Between Us began in 2025. I was a university student in Malta, balancing lectures and deadlines and the kind of life that doesn't leave much room for dreaming out loud. But the story kept coming anyway, in stolen moments, late nights, and the spaces between everything else.

I wrote it because I believe that some of the most universal human experiences are the ones we struggle most to put into words. The longing for someone you never got closure on. The love that stays with you long after the person has gone. The ache that grows in the silence between what you feel and what you are able to say. I wanted to give those feelings a home.

After finishing the manuscript I did what every hopeful author does. I queried literary agents. I waited. I rewrote. I waited some more. And eventually I made the decision that so many indie authors before me have made: to trust the story enough to put it out into the world myself.

Self publishing has been one of the most overwhelming, exciting, confusing and rewarding experiences of my life. From designing the cover to formatting the interior, from setting up an Amazon listing to building this little corner of the internet, every step has been a lesson. And every step has been worth it.

The Ache Between Us is now available as an ebook on Amazon and as a paperback edition right here in my store. If any part of this story resonates with you, if you have ever loved someone and felt that gap between what you felt and what you were able to say, then this book was written for you.

Thank you for being here. It means more than I can put into words, and I am someone who tries very hard to put everything into words.
