Mr James Neffendorf

James is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London. He is Senior Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at King's College London. His private practice is at London Lauriston Clinic, where he is deputy medical director, and The London Clinic.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and regular serves as an examiner. He has a higher degree (MD) in retinal research and Age-related Macular Degeneration from King's College London. He was awarded 18 academic prizes and awards during his training in Cambridge, Oxford and London.

James leads a UK steering group on filler-associated visual loss. James is actively involved in retinal research and has published 40 peer reviewed publications as well as presenting his work at numerous international and national meetings. He is frequently invited to review and critically appraise research for many of the leading ophthalmic journals.

He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), European Society of Retinal Specialists (EURetina), British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons (BEAVRS) and European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

James is an experienced Cataract and Retinal surgeon, with specialist interests in all aspects of Retinal Disease including Retinal Detachment Surgery, Floaters, Macular Hole, Epiretinal Membrane, Diabetic Eye Disease, Medical Retina and Complex Cataract Surgery.

He also sees patients with General and Emergency Ophthalmic Conditions

Gillian Murray MPharm

Gillian Murray is a clinical prescribing pharmacist specialising in aesthetics medicine and holds a clinical academic position at Kings College London (KCL) University. At the university she is working towards her PhD in hyaluronidase.

Pharmacists in the UK can undertake clinical training to work autonomously as prescribing clinicians.

She is a senior lecturer in advanced clinical practice, rheology and pharmacokinetics, and has published several papers supporting the management of complications in aesthetic practice and dermal filler rheology.

Gillian has 18 years’ experience of working in acute trusts within the NHS predominately in her area of speciality - Surgery. She has held the positions of directorate pharmacist to many surgical disciplines including plastics, burns, ICU, vascular and to medical disciplines such as acute medicine, infection, dermatology and rheumatology. 

Passionate about using medicines safely and understanding co morbidities to inform treatment decisions, she set up the group ‘medicine in aesthetics’ which supports aesthetic practitioners. She has worked extensively to support complications and is a founding board member of the Complications in Medical Aesthetic Collaborative (CMAC UK)

Further to her PhD research she has an interest hypersensitivity reactions in aesthetics, HA gel chemistry, rheology and behaviours.

Miss Elizabeth Hawkes

Miss Hawkes is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon with extensive training in both the UK and the USA. She graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Imperial College London, where she also gained a BSc in Neuroscience, and furthered her training at Harvard Medical School, Boston. After completing postgraduate medical and surgical training at St Mary’s Hospital, London, she undertook specialist ophthalmic surgical training on the Oxford rotation and at Moorfields Eye Hospital.


In 2018 she was appointed as an NHS Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon, holding a substantive post at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where she served as Clinical Lead of the Emergency Eye Care Service. She is on the GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmic Surgery.


Miss Hawkes is a Fellow and Examiner of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and an active member of the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society. She also serves on the Clinical Advisory Board for the Aesthetics Journal and the Specialist Advisory Board of the Complications in Medical Aesthetics Collaborative (CMAC), where she contributes expert opinion on cosmetic eye treatments and complex aesthetic decision-making

Mr Stafford Sansome

Stafford is an Ophthalmologist currently undertaking his Glaucoma Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He carried out his Ophthalmology Specialist training in South London, rotating through Kings College London, Guy's and St Thomas' and Moorfields Eye Hospitals. He completed his undergraduate medical studies at Barts and the London School of Medicine graduating with Distinction. During this time, he also obtained a BSc from Kings College London in clinical and molecular endocrinology.

Stafford is part of a UK steering group on filler-associated visual loss. He has an active interest in teaching and has obtained a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Education. Stafford has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at several national and international conferences.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). He is also a member of the UK and Éire Glaucoma Society (UKEGS) and the European Glaucoma Society (EGS
