Adventures in Self-Publishing

There are a lot of great reasons to self-publish and you probably know them by now. Main one for me is that I have control of my work.. except when I don’t. Using certain self-publishing sites like Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing aka KDP, can cause great frustrations. And that’s where I am at the moment, completely frustrated. Yet, I'm not giving up hope. I’ve been self-publishing with KDP for five years and I always eventually figured it out. I just wish there was an easier site that was free, that’d also make physical books.

I’ve investigated a few places and maybe it’s me, but the alternatives seemed too difficult or too costly or both. That’s why I’m glad and grateful for this PayHip website! It’s easy enough for me to work with and share and do things I never thought I’d do, like attempt to write a blog post once a week. Oh, and I have the free version. Usually free versions have limitations, but the only difference really is the higher percentage rate compared to the other two plans. There's not nearly enough traffic on my site for me to go Pro lol.

Ever since I decided to make my ebooks into physical books, I've been very focused and busy with work. But with these current inconveniences, it makes me want to scrap the project altogether. Regardless, I feel I found a compromise. I'll adjust the size of the book, the pictures, the fonts.. whatever I have to do to get the paperback version out and available for the masses. I mean, it's a picture book, you'd think it'd be easier? Or maybe I was just too cocky, with my five years self-publishing experience. But like any career, there's always room to grow. If all else fails, I'll have to submit to using something other than Amazon. In the meantime, I still need to find the right one. Until then, Happy first day of May, my BooBerries! And thanks for listening!

XO, Tara
