The Truth About Carbs

Will eating carbs after 5pm make you fat? Should you be cutting carbs to loose weight?

Let me answer your carb queries:

Carbs are not the enemy and are essential for your body to function (as are healthy fats).

You do not need to follow a low-carb or low-fat diet to lose weight.

It's recommended that you eat between 4 - 6 grams of carbs per kilo of body weight, per day. Your total daily intake should consist of 45% - 60% carbs.

For example, if you weighed 60kg, you should be eating between 240 - 360 grams of carbs, per day.

Do I have to cut carbs to decrease my bodyweight/fat?

No. The truth is that you need to keep eating carbs because they are your main source of energy. If your body doesn't have a sufficient amount, it may start looking to your muscles to burn fat and this will inhibit your muscle development and recovery. You will also feel tired and have less energy - and we can't have that when you should be crushing your gym goals!

If I eat carbs in the evening, will they be stored as fat?

Honestly no. While it is better to center your carb intake around your workouts, there's no reason why if you eat them after 5pm they will be transformed into fat by your body; it's simply not possible.

A balanced diet, focused on the correct protein and calorie intake will generally take care of everything for you.

Whatever you do; you do not need to cut carbs!
