About the author

After 37 years as a professional photographer and studio owner,  Robert 'Bob' Bluffield hung up his cameras to focus on writing non-fiction books in retirement.

He has authored four commercially commissioned books. The first two were the 'Focalguide to Wedding & Portrait Photography' published in 1976, followed by 'Making & Managing a Photographic Studio' published by David & Charles in 1979.

Changing course to write about his love of civil aviation, in 2009 Ian Allan commissioned him to write 'Imperial Airways - The Birth of the British Airline Industry 1914-1940'. As a follow-up, Tattered Flag Press published 'Over Empires and Oceans - Pioneers, Aviators & Adventurers - Forging the International Air Routes 1918-1939'.

As a versatile writer, Robert has also ghostwritten a biography of a magician, a book on marketing and edited the autobiography of the late pop musician, Tony Rivers. In addition, during his career, Robert has contributed numerous articles to the photographic, aviation, and business media and served as a contributing editor for a lifestyle magazine.

For more than a decade, the author has been a presenter at a successful online radio station, appearing as a member of a weekly two-hour current affairs debating show.
