Let me share a bit about my personal journey with Bullmastiffs. Growing up in a small town, my dad was fascinated by unusual dog breeds, and Bullmastiffs were quite rare then, no one in the community had them. I was lucky to grow up in a house with at least three dogs at all times, sometimes five.
Back then, dogs weren’t allowed inside the house; they were outside dogs only. That changed when I got my own place. Now, my dogs live both indoors and outdoors and are always near me whenever possible. I don’t allow dogs in the bedrooms, but they have their own beds and special rooms inside and outside the house.
Regarding Bullmastiffs, we got two when I was 12, alongside a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Saint Bernard. I have nothing but great memories of all of them. The Bullmastiffs fit right in immediately. I was still young but walked them daily with my mom, and they were always close when I played outside. Those were truly special days.
Bullmastiffs are gentle souls. They don’t bark much and tend to be a bit lazy, but they cherish their walks and sniffing adventures. Our dogs got plenty of exercise thanks to the young and playful Ridgeback.
Having so many dogs has been a blessing in my life, though it’s heartbreaking when they grow old or fall ill. Seeing a beloved dog slow down or leave is painful, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I strive to give my dogs the best life possible because they bring me so much joy and truly deserve it.
Today, I’m fortunate to have two Bullmastiffs again, filling my home with love and companionship. They are amazing with me, the rest of our dog pack, and even our chickens; loving, gentle giants who are perfect in my eyes.
