About Me

M. Tanner Clark has spent more than 30 years on both sides of the line that this book is about — the physical build and the digital one.

He has built enterprise VDC, BIM, and digital construction programs from zero three times over: at Omicron AEC, at Stuart Olson, and most recently as Director of VDC / Digital Construction Services for Bird Construction's Industrial Division, where the program grew to support every active project across the Industrial, Infrastructure, and Nuclear business units. Before that, he ran his own VDC and BIM consultancy — MTC Design/3D, later PlanSync — for thirteen years, producing some of the first 4D construction models in North America for the YVR International Terminal Building expansion, before Navisworks existed as a commercial product. His project history includes Vancouver Convention Centre West, three Canada Line expansions, the Union Pearson Express, and digital delivery work on nuclear facilities for Bruce Power and Ontario Power Generation.

He is a founding member of CanBIM (now Building Transformations) and an international speaker on digital twins, BIM, VDC, and applied AI in construction.

Before any of that, he spent a decade learning the physical realities that digital delivery is meant to serve: laying out timber cut blocks by helicopter access in coastal British Columbia, designing and supervising construction of megayachts, and building three custom homes start to finish alongside his grandfather, a journeyman carpenter and contractor. That's the origin of a career-long insistence that digital tools serve the people actually building the work — not the other way around.

Today he works as an independent, owner-side advisor on digital twin strategy and asset information delivery, and writes regularly on The Digital Jobsite. Connect with him on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/mtannerclark.
