Painting inside

Not much painting went on over the festive season, if I’m completely honest. But now I’m back in the studio and working on some new still life paintings.

It’s that time of year again, when the weather isn’t exactly encouraging me to head outside with my easel. Cold, grey days are perfect for staying indoors, so I’ve been enjoying the warmth of my little garden studio and setting up all kinds of still life compositions instead. Not all of them will make it into finished paintings, of course, but the process itself is always enjoyable. Experimenting, moving objects around, playing with light and colour, it’s all part of the fun.

And usually, by the end of it all, something catches my eye and feels worth taking further. That’s when a new painting begins.
