How I found out that Emotional Intelligence is what I needed as a woman in my 20s

Happiness isn’t about money, success, or achieving goals. It comes from within ourselves. Each person has their own perspective on what happiness means, so it’s challenging for anyone to pinpoint where or what will make you happy. What I can share is my personal journey.

Hey there, I’m Heidy — just a woman, partner, and a new mom. But my journey took an unexpected turn when I became pregnant. Suddenly, my emotions were all over the place, and those old traumas I thought I’d dealt with came rushing back, hitting me harder than ever before. It was a wake-up call. I realized I needed to delve deeper into emotional health, not just for myself but for others too.

So, I became a certified emotional intelligence coach and life coach👌. But it wasn’t just about the certifications; it was about finding a way to be there for people, especially in their darkest moments when they feel utterly alone. I wanted to create something that could offer a hand to hold onto when life felt like it was spiraling out of control — and that’s when, “A Guide For Life” was born.

My mission? To help you navigate your emotions in a healthy way, to teach you how to manage them as you journey through life’s twists and turns. I want you to know that you’re not alone — that even in your darkest moments, there’s someone here for you.

👍🏽Now, let’s explore why achieving emotional intelligence matters and what it can do for you.

If you don’t manage how you react to life events, crises, and your feelings, emotions will have complete control over your decisions and your life. Focusing solely on acquiring wealth, finding true love, or accomplishing goals doesn’t guarantee happiness. You may still find yourself unhappy and unfulfilled, wondering why you aren’t satisfied despite having everything you wanted.

Based on my failures, mistakes, and personal experience, I can tell you that achieving emotional intelligence starts with self-awareness. You are the one in control of your life and the choices you make. Until you’re ready to accept this truth, emotional intelligence will remain out of reach.

Once you acknowledge this to yourself, we can move on to the next steps. However, remember that learning emotional intelligence isn’t a one-time lesson that you can forget about and believe you can conquer the world. It’s an ongoing practice, and it’s okay to make mistakes along the way because we’re all human.

🥇The first step is shifting our mindset. You must affirm to yourself that you are in control of your life, not your emotions. But it’s not just about saying it; you have to truly believe it.

🤞Next, let’s embrace gratitude. Gratitude helps us develop a sense of contentment and fulfillment. When we recognize and express gratitude for the blessings in our lives, no matter how small, we develop a deeper sense of appreciation and satisfaction.

❌We need to let go of the narratives we’ve been telling ourselves — for example, blaming past traumas or our parents for our unhappiness. It’s time to stop feeling sorry for ourselves. This is how we heal and take ownership of our mental health.

✔️Taking ownership means accepting that our decisions shape our lives. By doing so, we make better choices because we know that if we mess up, there’s no one else to blame but ourselves.

😊We must also cultivate a positive mindset. Fill your thoughts with positivity, leaving no room for negativity. Instead of saying, “I can’t be happy,” say, “I will be happy. I will find ways to achieve happiness.”

Remember to breathe. When something someone says or does makes you angry, take as many breaths as needed until the emotion passes and you can respond calmly.

🙋🏽‍♀️For me, emotional intelligence is about managing how you respond to your emotions in the present moment, rather than reacting impulsively.
