Introduction: The Truth About Your Thoughts
I used to believe that bad things in life just happened to me. If things went wrong, I assumed it was because of bad luck or circumstances beyond my control. I never realized that the way I thought about myself, my struggles, and my future was shaping everything around me.
The truth is, your thoughts create your reality. Every single day, what you think about yourself, what you expect from life, and the stories you tell yourself influence the life you live. As Neville Goddard said, “Your imagination is the only limit to what you can have in your life.” If you’ve been stuck in cycles of self-doubt, fear, or frustration, it’s not because you’re destined to stay there—it’s because your mind has been programmed to keep you there. But the good news? You can reprogram it.
Let’s break it down step by step, in a way that actually makes sense and feels doable, even if you’re just starting out.
Step 1: Identify the Negative Patterns Running Your Life
The first step to changing your mindset is recognizing the thoughts that are holding you back. These are often thoughts you’ve repeated so many times that they feel like the truth. But they’re not. They’re just habits.
Common Negative Thought Patterns:
- “I’ll never be successful.”
- “I always mess things up.”
- “Nothing ever works out for me.”
- “I’m not smart/good/lucky enough.”
These thoughts might feel automatic, but they’re actually learned patterns—things you picked up from past experiences, childhood, or even society. The problem is, if you keep thinking this way, your brain will continue looking for proof that these thoughts are true.

How to Recognize Your Own Patterns:
- Write them down. Pay attention to the negative thoughts that pop up most often. Keep a journal of the things you say to yourself when things go wrong.
- Ask yourself, “Where did this come from?” Did someone tell you this? Did you experience something that made you believe it? Is it even true?
- Notice how they make you feel. If a thought makes you feel drained, small, or stuck, it’s not serving you.
- Identify the triggers. When do these thoughts pop up the most? Is it when you're facing challenges, scrolling social media, or comparing yourself to others?
- Challenge the thoughts. Ask yourself: If my best friend said this about themselves, what would I tell them?

Step 2: Interrupt the Old Programming
Once you’ve identified these thoughts, the next step is stopping them in their tracks. The goal isn’t to pretend they don’t exist but to stop giving them power over you.
Simple Ways to Interrupt Negative Thoughts:
- Say “Nope” out loud. If a negative thought comes up, literally say “Nope, not today.” Sounds silly, but it works.
- Use pattern-breaking techniques. Clap your hands, snap your fingers, or take a deep breath when you catch yourself thinking negatively. This helps reset your brain.
- Shift your focus. Immediately replace the thought with something neutral or positive. Instead of “I’m terrible at this,” say, “I’m learning, and I’m improving.”
- Change your physical state. Movement breaks patterns. Go for a walk, stretch, or even splash cold water on your face when negativity takes over.
- Use visualization. Imagine a stop sign when a negative thought creeps in. Then visualize a new, empowering thought instead.

The more you practice this, the quicker you’ll get at catching and stopping thoughts before they spiral.
Step 3: Reprogram with New Beliefs
Stopping negative thoughts is one part, but you need to replace them with better ones. This doesn’t mean forcing positivity or lying to yourself—it means choosing thoughts that actually serve you.
How to Reprogram Your Mind:
- Flip the script. For every negative belief, write a new, empowering one. Example:
- Instead of “I’ll never be successful,” say, “I’m figuring out my path, and success is possible for me.”
- Use repetition. The more you repeat a belief, the more your brain accepts it as truth. Write it, say it, remind yourself daily.
- Act as if. Behave as the version of you who already believes these new thoughts. If you believed you were confident, how would you act today?
- Create affirmations that feel real. Instead of “I am rich” if that feels fake, try “I am learning to attract more money every day.”
- Celebrate small wins. Reinforce your new beliefs with proof—track every little sign of progress.
(Side Note: If you struggle with deep-seated beliefs that won’t budge, this is exactly why I created my Shadow Work eBook. It helps you dig deeper and uncover the real reasons behind these limiting thoughts. You don’t have to stay stuck—there’s a way out.)
Step 4: Surround Yourself with the Right Environment
Your thoughts are influenced by what you consume. If you want to reprogram your mind, you need to be mindful of what you’re feeding it.
What to Do:
- Watch who you spend time with. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, not those who reinforce negative beliefs.
- Be mindful of your content. What are you watching, reading, and listening to? If it’s making you feel worse, switch it up.
- Curate your space. Create an environment that reflects where you’re headed. Vision boards, affirmations, and even decluttering can help.
- Find a mentor or expand your circle. Follow people who inspire you and make you believe change is possible.
- Limit comparison. Social media can be a trap—curate your feed to support your growth, not your insecurities.
Step 5: Stay Consistent & Be Patient
Reprogramming your mind isn’t an overnight thing. It’s like going to the gym—you don’t get abs after one workout. But if you keep showing up and doing the work, you’ll see changes.

What to Expect:
- Some days will feel easy, and some will feel hard. That’s normal.
- Old thoughts might creep back in, but you’ll catch them faster.
- Over time, your new thoughts will feel more natural.
The key is to keep going even when you don’t see immediate results. Every small shift adds up. And one day, you’ll realize you’re no longer controlled by the thoughts that used to hold you back.
(If you want extra guidance, my Shadow Work eBook walks you through exercises to help you shift your mindset and break free from these old patterns. It’s a step-by-step process that makes healing feel more manageable.)
Final Thoughts: You Are in Control
Your mind is powerful. The way you think shapes everything around you. If your current reality isn’t what you want, start with your thoughts—because that’s where real change begins.

So start today. Catch those thoughts. Flip the script. Surround yourself with the right energy. And most importantly—believe that change is possible for you. Because it is.
