✨ Hi, I’m Sue — an independent composer and contemporary musician from Western Australia, a WAAPA contemporary (commercial) music graduate, and the human behind Finnegan’s Way.
I’ve been writing, playing and creating original music for decades. Drums and percussion are my primary instruments, but my musical training has always been much broader — encompassing composition, songwriting, piano, electronic music, recording and performance. I graduated with a High Distinction in songwriting, and throughout my WAAPA studies my submitted work was entirely original.
Today, that musical background meets modern technology. I create the tracks you hear at Finnegan’s Way using a combination of my own musical ideas, live instruments, digital production, licensed sound sources and AI-assisted tools. The process varies from track to track — sometimes beginning with a melody, chords or something I’ve played, and sometimes using technology more freely as part of the creative process.
I’ve spent a lifetime learning and making music. AI hasn’t replaced that — it has simply become another tool in my studio, helping me turn more of those musical ideas into finished pieces.
After decades of playing, recording and composing, I realised that creators were being pushed into subscription traps, algorithm-driven audio and licensing systems that made them feel unsafe. So I built Finnegan’s Way as an alternative — a place where you can license music once, keep it forever, and know exactly who made it.
Every track here is composed in a small home studio in Perth, with my two companions — Finn (Chihuahua) and Ellie (cat) — usually asleep somewhere nearby. Together, we’re slowly working toward a future of full-time van life across Australia, funded one carefully crafted soundtrack at a time.
If you’re a filmmaker, storyteller, small creator, or simply someone who loves beautiful audio, you’re welcome here.
This is independent music, made with intention.
And I’m grateful you’ve found your way to it.
