About Me

Gerald Whitlock is a retired British tax accountant. He spent nearly forty years in private practice helping UK families with HMRC, pensions, ISAs, and inheritance tax. He retired in 2022.

Since then, he's volunteered for Pension Wise and Citizens Advice — sitting opposite ordinary UK pensioners who've been overpaying tax, missing allowances, and losing money to HMRC because nobody ever explained the rules to them.

He made these guides because he kept hearing the same stories. They're written in plain English, verified against gov.uk for the 2026/27 UK tax year, and built around the same advice he'd give a neighbour over the fence.

Gerald is not a regulated financial adviser. The guides are general educational information, not personal financial, tax, or legal advice. For your specific situation, talk to a qualified accountant, an Independent Financial Adviser regulated by the FCA, or HMRC directly.

Gerald Whitlock is a character — created to share what HMRC and the system don't teach UK pensioners. The content, the figures, and the procedures in the guides are all real and verified. The face and voice are not.
