What is the furthest the JWST can det4ect signs of life? - Physics A level explained - tutorials and exam tips

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)

JWST has discovered the presence of water vapour and carbon dioxide on WASP-39 b which is 700 light-years away. These chemicals may indicate the presence of life on the planet. When a planet passes in front of its host star, some of the star's light passes through the planet’s atmosphere. Molecules in the atmosphere absorb specific wavelengths of light, leaving a unique "fingerprint" in the spectrum.
