Groovelates classes for Menopause

Do you teach mid-life women?

These are one of the groups that can really benefit from attending Groovelates classes.

Here’s how our sessions can help:


· Low Impact- the reduction in oestrogen due to the menopause can cause issues with soft tissues and joints. Groovelates classes put functional stress on joints to maintain optimal function without extra jarring/ high impact.


· Bone Loading- as we age areas such as the wrist become high risk for breakages due to the lowering of bone density. By loading into a bone, we can improve the laying down of bone- osteoblastic activity- thus strengthening bones and joints. We always have bone loading in the wrists, hips and ankles which are manageable and allow for modification to suit our class member’s tolerance.


·Heart Rate Response- we start class with 4 standing tracks based upon Standing Pilates fused with easy-to-follow dance vibes. This allows us to train to a raised heart rate position and help improve cardio-vascular function as well as burn extra calories.


·Balance- as we age our balance systems can be affected. We always have specific tracks that include balance training as well as finishing class with a balance challenge so we can monitor improvements.


·Armography- we use this to wake up the brain/body connection and improve cognitive processing. Many menopausal women report “brain fog” issues and this is a positive step to give our brains the boost they need too.


·Muscular strength and endurance- as we age we lose muscle fibre as well as the neural control of it. Groovelates classes include strengthening for the pelvic girdle to help off-set lower back issues, shoulder stability work to offset postural changes and abdominal muscle work to off-set mid-section weaknesses.


·Pelvic Floor- again these muscle and soft tissue connections can be affected by menopausal hormone changes. We include pelvic floor training throughout to help train them in different positions and at different tempos.


·Mental Wellbeing- we use original artist tracks to evoke a sense of nostalgia and fun. Mid-life can bring many challenges for women as they navigate both physical changes and societal changes- doing exercise that gives both a dopamine and endorphin release can help women get through their day with a positive attitude and improved self-esteem.


The best bit? We know we deliver a super effective class- our members just enjoy a fabulous, fun session with retro, nostalgic music.
