Hi, I’m Cynthia — a North Queensland mum and children’s author behind Hickory Wattle Press.

The Sugarcane Harvester Song was inspired by my son’s fascination with the Sugar Tracks display along the Hinchinbrook Way Walk in Ingham, where historic farm machinery first sparked his curiosity about sugarcane harvesting.

Through Malcolm and Maggie’s adventures, I create joyful, inclusive stories that help children connect with Australian agriculture, regional communities, and how things work in the real world.
