About the Author

Hi, I'm Cynthia Sappracone. I'm a children's author and mum who believes curiosity is one of childhood's greatest superpowers.

The Sugarcane Harvester Song was inspired by my son's fascination with sugarcane trains and the big machines at a John Deere dealership in North Queensland. Like many little ones, he wanted to stop and watch them whenever he could. He asked endless questions about how everything worked. That curiosity became the heart of this story.

Set to the familiar tune of The Wheels on the Bus, the book follows Malcolm and Maggie the Magpie as they explore a busy sugarcane harvester at work in the paddock.

Malcolm also happens to have a limb difference. It's simply part of who he is - not the focus of the story. I believe children's books should reflect the wonderful variety of kids we see in the real world. In doing so, every child can see themselves in joyful adventures.

When I'm not writing, you'll usually find me reading with my sons, exploring local libraries, baking together in the kitchen, or stopping to watch vehicles of all shapes and sizes driving by.
