About John
I'm J.M. Lane, a writer from Ennis, Co. Clare, now living in Sligo. I write crime, dark fantasy, poetry and short fiction, and nearly everything I write comes back to folklore, family and memory: the old beliefs my nana taught me, and the things that get passed down whether we want them or not.
My debut adult crime novel, Why the Curlew Cries, is out on 31 October 2026. Before that came The Raven Chronicles young adult series and the novella The Things We Kept, which have sold tens of thousands of copies between them. My work has been shortlisted for Wild Atlantic Words and recognised in Witty Wicklow, and my micro-short film Whose There? has won awards in Toronto and beyond.
I'm also a husband, a father and a foster father, and those are the roles I'm proudest of.
Thanks for stopping by. Every book you buy here comes straight from me.
