Legacy Spotlight: Bilal Munir Rahim

Founder of Our Black Fathers Committee (OBFC)

Black Fathers Advocate | Youth Mentor | Community Leader

In a world where fatherhood is too often overlooked or misrepresented, Bilal Munir Rahim stands tall as a man committed to changing that narrative — not just with his words, but with his life.

As the founder of Our Black Fathers Committee (OBFC), Bilal is not only advocating for Black fathers, he’s reshaping what it means to show up for family, community, and future generations. His work is deeply personal — rooted in lived experience, driven by love, and guided by a clear mission: to strengthen Black men so they can strengthen the world around them.

A Life Anchored in Purpose

When Bilal describes who he is, he doesn’t start with accolades or accomplishments. He begins with roles — the ones that matter most.

“I’m a Black fathers advocate and youth mentor. Both passions help develop my purpose in serving my community. I’m a husband and father. I also have a one-year-old grandson.”

His family is his foundation. His brotherhood is his fuel. And the village he’s building is the result of years of dedication to something bigger than himself.

Through OBFC, Bilal has created a space where men can be vulnerable, honest, and supported — a space where growth is encouraged, healing is possible, and accountability is love.

A Turning Point Born from Tragedy

The path to purpose is rarely a straight line. For Bilal, it was a loss that changed everything.

“Losing my cousin to gun violence made a great impact on my decision making and way of life.”

That tragic moment became a turning point. It forced him to re-evaluate how he was living and who he wanted to become. It also pushed him to create change from within — to mentor young men, support fellow fathers, and step into leadership not just with passion, but with precision.

Community Work That Speaks for Itself

Bilal doesn’t just believe in change, he builds it.

“Every time I help to strengthen a father, I help strengthen the community. Every young man I mentor helps to create a more promising future for us all.”

His impact isn’t hypothetical, it’s tangible. It’s found in Tuesday night support groups. It’s seen in the lives of men who’ve reclaimed their roles as fathers. It’s felt in the hearts of youth who now see themselves reflected in someone who believes in their worth.

From mentoring to mental wellness to building generational leadership, Bilal’s work is both restorative and revolutionary.

Redefining Legacy

Ask Bilal what legacy means, and he’ll tell you it’s not about praise or popularity. It’s about presence. It’s about how you live, not how you’re remembered.

“Legacy is what you do while you’re alive that has a positive affect on your family when you’re gone.”

And he’s living that every day.

Whether he’s guiding a young man through life decisions, helping a father navigate emotional terrain, or showing up for his own children and grandson, Bilal is writing his legacy in real-time.

A Message That Echoes

If Bilal could leave the world with one message, it would be:

“Each one, Teach one. Make room for your gifts to shine.”

It’s a call to action for all of us — to own our roles, share our knowledge, and never underestimate the impact of showing up fully.
