Stuck in Street View - Dreams and Readers

I'd like to update you on my recent work.

This month I submitted a new play for a UK award. This play is called Stuck in Street View and comes under the umbrella of the Speculative Fiction genre as a psychological drama. It is a full length, 90 minute, two act play and was based on a strange, unsettling dream I had. I often have these types of dreams and sometimes I remember them in detail. The theatre wanted something new and original which has never been done before and of course no-one has had my dream, so my idea fits the criteria perfectly. I have always considered my dreams a curse but if I can use them as original material on which to base my stories, then maybe they are a blessing after all.

Writing this play was sometimes fun, sometimes unsettling but always a labour of love. I started theatre writing with a full length musical Sea Shanty Shanti, but since then I have been writing short plays, so to go back to a full length one was a huge commitment to my time and energy. As writers know, the writing pleasure is in the first draft when you can get your wonderful story down on paper and see what you have created. But by the time you have done 3 rewrites based on feedback from first readers, and several detailed line edits, you become sick of the sight of your own work. This is where you need fresh readers to see it with new eyes and remind you that yes, it is a great story. This is why I want to thank my readers, Martha, Jean-Noel, Marion and Clemmie for your honest feedback and encouragement. To my fellow creators - keep up the good work.

Of course I will keep you posted on the submission results.

Coming soon - Watch this space for an update of my current work in progress.
