Sidney Poitier


Sidney Poitier was a groundbreaking Bahamian-American actor, film director, and author. He became the first Black actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in "Lilies of the Field" (1963). Poitier was known for his powerful performances in films like "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "To Sir, with Love," and "The Defiant Ones." Beyond acting, he was also a prominent figure in the civil rights movement and worked to break racial barriers in Hollywood.
