Why I Started Rose Performance Training: My Story & Training Philosophy

Who I Am

I grew up playing sports. I played everything from soccer and softball to volleyball and basketball, but basketball was the one I stuck with. I trained day and night just to be the best player I could be.

For a long time, I wanted to be a coach and originally went to college studying sports management. But after falling in love with the weight room, I switched my major to Exercise Science. It was during college, while playing basketball and training in the gym, that I decided I wanted to become a strength and conditioning coach.

After graduating, I started working at a supplement store. It was there that I became a certified Sports Nutrition Coach, but I always knew it wasn't what I wanted to be doing long term.

Later, I became a certified personal trainer and started working at a physical therapy clinic as an exercise physiologist. There, I started learning more about programming for specific goals and adaptations, while also teaching people why we use certain exercises, concepts, and training methods.

All of these experiences have helped shape me, but they aren't the reason I coach the way I do.

Why I Started Rose Performance Training

I've been training for years at this point. I've experienced what getting stronger, faster, and more powerful can do for performance. I've also seen people get injured and lose strength, confidence, and independence as time goes on.

I know what it's like to just want to see your numbers in the gym go up. For a while, my idea of training was all about building muscle and lifting more weight.

When I was playing sports, I cared about being able to move well, getting stronger in the movements I needed to perform, and becoming the fastest player I could be. But after I stopped playing, my focus shifted. Training became more and more about putting additional weight on the bar.

It wasn't until I started working as an exercise physiologist that the way I thought about training really began to change.

And that's ultimately what led me to Rose Performance Training.

My Philosophy

The way I think about training has changed.

As I've gotten older, I've realized there are things I want to be able to do easily for the rest of my life. I want to be able to get off the floor without a problem. I want to get in and out of a chair without breaking a sweat. I want to pick things up, open a heavy door, and carry in my groceries without thinking twice about it.

That's why I now base my training around being able to move well.

It starts with building a foundation of movement that creates efficient mechanics.

Then stability, which allows you to control every aspect of that movement.

Then strength, which builds your capacity through quality movement.

And finally, performance.

Performance isn't just about sports. It's about everyday life.

I want to be able to perform whatever life demands of me.

What Makes My Programs Different

I've learned a lot about programming, but I've mostly learned about the little things that people tend to overlook. And that's what makes Rose Performance Training different.

Nothing is ever random. Everything in a program is there for a reason.

I don't just program to get bigger or stronger. Those things are awesome, but they aren't the only things that matter. So I say, why not work on everything else while we're getting stronger and building muscle?

Let's also improve movement quality, stability, and control. Let's get stronger through every phase of a movement. And let's not forget about being able to actually use that strength beyond the gym.

I like to program for progression and long-term progress while focusing on the little things that a lot of programs miss—joint health, controlling heavy loads, moving well, and being able to perform your best in everyday tasks.

Because ultimately, I don't just want you to be stronger in the gym. I want that strength to carry over to everything you do outside of it.

Who I Coach

I don't just coach athletes or people who only want to increase their squat, bench, and deadlift. I want to coach people who want to move more efficiently, become stronger in every sense of the word, improve their performance, and keep doing the things they love for years to come.

You could have never lifted a weight in your life, or you could have been training for years. Either way, there's always something you can improve.

If you want to move better, learn control, build strength through movement, and improve your performance, I hope you stick around.

Because that's what Rose Performance Training is all about:

Move better. Build strength. Perform higher.
