Endometriosis is often a very painful condition caused by tissue similar to the lining of the uterus that begins to grow outside of the uterus. This condition affects the ovaries, fallopian tubes and pelvic tissue lining and can sometimes even be found outside the pelvic organ area.
Endometrial Tissue (or endo tissue) acts as a lining inside the uterine walls. It thickens and breaks down/ bleeds with each cycle. It is the reason we bleed every month and the lining that holds our fetus to term. Endometriosis can also involve the ovaries and when this happens, it begins to create cysts called Endometriomas. These cysts can cause irritation and scar tissue in the surrounding area. Bands of fibrous tissue called adhesions can also develop (this causes the pelvic tissue and organs to stick to each other). When that happens, it causes extreme pain that often shows up during menstruation. Endometriosis can also cause fertility issues.
Endometriosis can also seem like other conditions that are associated with pelvic pain such as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Ovarian Cysts, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (which can happen alongside endometriosis).
There is a wide range of causes of Endometriosis in women. The risk of Endometriosis is higher in women who have never given birth, began menstruation at an early age or developed menopause at an older age, have a low body mass index, as well as women who suffer from short menstrual cycles, excessive estrogen production, or those who suffer from conditions that prevent the blood from flowing out of the body naturally. It is also a high risk for women who have a genetic family history with Endometriosis and those with reproductive tract conditions.
Some of the causes of Endometriosis are retrograde menstruations, transformed peritoneal cells, any changes in embryonic cells, as well as many others.
A Retrograde Menstruation happens when the menstrual blood flows back into the fallopian tubes and into the pelvic cavity instead of out of the body. The endo tissue contained in our blood can stick to and grow on the pelvic walls and surfaces of the pelvic organs. Once it sticks it will continue to thicken and bleed within the course of the menstrual cycle.
Transformed Peritoneal Cells often happen when our hormones or immune factors change the inner lining of the abdomen into the endo tissue cells that line the inside of the uterus. Changes in embryonic cells (cells in early stages of development) are caused when estrogen begins producing, changing these cells into endometrial cells during puberty. This often happens in women who begin bleeding at an early age.
Other causes of Endometriosis can happen when surgical scars develop complications (such as a c-section). When this happens, the endo cells can attach to the scar tissue on the stomach area. Our blood vessels and tissue fluid system may also move the endo cells to other parts of the body which can cause Endometriosis. A low immune system can have a hard time fighting and defending from excessive endo tissue, leaving the body defenseless.
There are tests that you can take to confirm whether it is Endometriosis you are struggling with. Tests like a pelvic exam, an ultrasound or MRI, and even a Laparoscopy can be performed to confirm the presence of Endometriosis. It’s important to talk to your doctor before beginning treatment for Endometriosis because, as previously mentioned, Endometriosis can seem like other conditions. Western Medicine often uses treatments such as pain medication, hormone therapy/birth control and even surgery to deal with this particular condition.
Birth Control should never be the answer to treat any ailment, disorder or discomfort because it completely replaces our natural cycle with a synthetic cycle and therefore disconnects us from our body’s natural rhythm completely. This causes more harm than good in any situation.
However, as always, there is a more natural, less invasive way to heal your body from Endometriosis. Things like Acupuncture, Chiropractic Care, and simple lifestyle, dietary and energetic healing practices can heal the body of Endometriosis. Energy Healing is extremely effective in this kind of condition, as Endometriosis is just an excessive production of estrogen, which therefore can be targeted to an excessive amount of energy being held within the body. Knowing how to increase your progesterone supply can also prevent the body from producing excessive amounts of estrogen, which is what causes the body to continue thickening the endo tissue inside the uterus. Progesterone is what helps break down the tissue when there is no fetus attached. When progesterone is not being effectively produced, there is nothing to stop the production of estrogen.
Treatments such as yoni steaming can help break down scar tissue and help the body release the excess cells and tissues that may be held within the body. It is a pleasant and super effective herbal steam you can do regularly to keep your body supported and functioning properly.
Womb Reiki is great for those looking for the support of energy work. It helps release the trauma and stagnant energy that is held within the womb, preventing the body from overflowing into other places. As everything is made up of energy, including the cells in our body’s, this is a super effective way to heal the womb and therefore help support the body in healing from Endometriosis. Incorporating spiritual practices such as meditation, yoga, energy healing, breathwork and womb healing can help settle the nervous system so that the body does not get stuck in the Sympathetic Nervous System, which is what keeps us in fight or flight mode and prevents the organs from functioning effectively. These spiritual practices can help reduce anxiety and depression and help rebalance the body’s energetic fields, which also allows the body’s nervous system to slow down and remain in the Parasympathetic Nervous System. The Parasympathetic Nervous System is what allows the body to remain in a zen space so that everything can function properly.
Learning how to live a lifestyle that is in support of your natural cycle can help provide your body with what it needs in order to maintain a hormonal balance. Learning how and what to eat and what movement techniques you can do that helps support every stage of your cycle is honestly the best way to heal your body of ailments, disorders and discomforts or any kind.
If you are unsure what your vitamin levels are at or whether you struggle with Endometriosis, there are tests you can take that will help give you a clear understanding of where your body is at and how you can give it what it needs to help support it on your journey of rebalance and healing.
