Airy

Airy is a light, loose-fitting cowl or snood, perfect for Autumn or Spring when a little more warmth is needed around your neck and shoulders. It is knit in the round at a large loose gauge and consists of stripes of 4ply/fingering alternating with stripes of lace silk mohair. It is designed to take advantage of the heat trapping properties of silk-mohair yarn, but you could use silk-alpaca or other fluffy laceweight yarn. It can be worn either right-side (knit stitches) out, or wrong-side (purl stitches) out for a textured look.

Airy can be made to any size, limited only by your yarn quantities, and looks particularly good as a snood to warm your ears as well as your neck. The widest size can be wound twice around the neck for even more warmth.

Suggested heights are 40 cm / 16” for a medium cowl, 55 cm / 22” for a generous snood, but you can make Airy in any length you want. Three widths are given in the pattern, narrow (medium, wide) approximately 54 (71, 107) cm / 21 ¼” (28 ½”, 42 ¾“), but again you can make the cowl in any width, just cast on fewer or more stitches.

Finished sizes of the samples shown are:

White and pink medium cowl: 40 cm / 16” long x 71 cm / 28 ½” in circumference.

Dark purple wide snood: 56 cm / 22” long x 107 / 42 ¾” in circumference.
