Composed in 2014 this is a piece for large, four-octave harp, designed to explore the sounds of the different octaves and help the player become accustomed to the varying feel and tone of the strings as they wander round the harp with this tune. You could adapt it to a smaller instrument by moving some parts up an octave or two.

  • Pdf with 2 page music score, 1 page glossary & explanation of techniques used, front & back covers illustrated with photos of Kenroku-en (by Laurina Strachan).
  • Harp tuned to C, piece in D dorian.
  • Range required from D 2 octaves below middle C to D 2 octaves above. Smaller harps will be able to play the main themes but will not be able to play all the octave variations as written. (It is possible to move up an octave though.)

BONUS: 16 mp3 files: 1 for each individual part; 1 with comments and helpful hints for each part; 2 full recording of all parts (1 as score, 1 with extemporised variations).

Listen to some of the tracks on the soundcloud image to the left.

(You don't need to download or keep the soundfiles if you don't want to!)

This piece was written and recorded on a 30 string wire-strung Kinnellan harp by Ardival Harps.
