There should be a spot mic (or equivalent) amplifying each instrument (apart from the electric guitar which should have its own amplifier situated beside it) and a sound engineer available to control the amplification of instruments. The sound engineer should ensure that the dynamics in the score are followed as closely as possible. The sound engineer must consider instrumental limitations when controlling the overall balance. At times, the trumpet may not need to be amplified. The sound of the percussionist scribbling on/ripping paper (as requested at various times in the score) must be amplified.

Percussion: the percussionist requires a table and chair; a book of paper (any writing pad is acceptable); two pencils, and a kick drum.

Electric Guitar: the electric guitarist requires a household sponge.

Piano: the piano must be a grand piano with the lid open or removed. There should be a spot mic (or equivalent) amplifying the piano string

Praying for Gabriel tells the story of a composer (represented by the percussionist sat at a table) with writer’s block who is longing to find their next composition amidst an array of disparate ideas (as represented by the other instrumentalists that surround the percussionist) and desperate sketches that inadvertently merge together to form music.
