Article - SEL, CRT, and DEI are Destroying our Young People

Click through any media outlet today, and the headlines shout a bleak announcement – teenagers are ending their lives in record numbers. On April 26, 2023, a Florida Atlantic University headline declared, “Alarming rates of teen suicide continue to increase in the US.” A June 15th, 2023 ABC News headline proclaimed, “Suicide rates increased 60% since 2011 among US youth and young adults.” A July 1, 2023 headline from American Psychological Association shouted, “More than 20% of teens have seriously considered suicide.”

As a mother of three teenagers, I have a personally vested interest in understanding the root causes of these headlines. Based on my personal and professional experiences with this generation, I contend that teen suicide rates have dramatically increased since Social Emotional Learning (SEL) was implemented into the US education system. My research points to three arenas of study that must be addressed, dissected, and dismantled.
