Spikes & Diamonds quilt pattern by Melanie of @mellmeyer.
Spikes & Diamonds was born from the idea to design a block with triangles that cross over the imaginary middle line and thus bring the common triangle quilt block to a new and modern interpretation. The small and big, slightly wonky and randomly arranged triangles now sometimes intersect like teeth on a zipper. But don't be fooled, they can also work very well in harmony and build beautiful diamond chains.
From these, you can build the three layouts: "Spikes", "Half-Diamonds", and "Full-Diamonds".
Also included are suggested block grids for four quilt sizes: Baby, Throw, Twin, and Queen.
There are mock-ups, and layout diagrams for the three layout options: "Spikes", "Half-Diamonds", and "Diamonds" each shown in a throw-size version.
Coloring sheets are available for on-paper and computer coloring in two styles each for all layout options: A throw size and a queen size that also includes markings for all smaller sizes.
Intermediate | The blocks in this template are sewn with the technique called foundation paper piecing (FPP). If you prefer, you can also use freezer paper piecing which is a subset of that technique. Basic knowledge of this method and basic quilting techniques is assumed. Because of the necessity to match more points the Half-Diamond versions is more challenging, followed by Full-Diamonds. Spikes might also be attempted by a very confident beginner.
