In our wonderful world of geological formations, chevrons will form when physically constrained by the surrounding material. This formation minimizes dissipation of energy as opposed to a rounded wave formation.

This is a pattern for a beanie style hat worked from the rib up and in the round using the stranded colourwork knitting technique.

2.5mm (us no 1.5) circular, 16in/41cm
3.0mm (us no 2.5) circular, 16in/41cm and DPNs 6in/15cm
gauge: 30 sts x 32 rows = 4in/10cm measured over stranded stockinette on larger needles
40 sts x 40 rows = 4in/10cm measured over 2 x 2 rib on smaller needles
Some knitters work stranded and single-coloured at different gauges. Change needles, as needed, to keep gauge the same throughout.
