Stars are one of my favorite motives in patchwork and as much as I love the various complex versions there’s no one that reminds me more of a beautiful clear and starry night sky as a simple five pointed star – after all my favorite painting is Vincent van Goghs „Starry Night“. ☆
In this pattern the star points are at the very edge of the block. If you prefer a pattern with a bit of space between the points and the edge of the block please check out my pattern „Five Pointed Star in Space“.
The pattern comes in nine sizes (3“, 4“, 4.5“, 5“, 6“, 7“, 8“, 9“ and 10“, unfinished at 3.5“, 4.5“, 5“, 5.5“, 6.5“, 7.5“, 8.5“, 9.5“ and 10.5“), with a coloring sheet and a bunch of design examples. The individual sections are clearly labeled and have a ¼“ seam allowance. There are no curves or y-seams. The pattern comes as PDF files in A4 and US Letter paper format.
This pattern is a beginner friendly foundation paper piecing (FPP) pattern that assumes basic knowledge of paper piecing. It does not include detailed FPP instructions or further instructions for turning it into e.g. a pillow or a quilt. You can find lots of free tutorials for the various FPP methods online. This pattern can be made with just a few cotton scraps from your stash.
