The Worn Bible | A Hearthside Study

A 12-page individual Bible study about the quiet work of formation, faithful return to Scripture, and keeping God’s Word within reach.

It was not pristine.

It was lived in.

The Worn Bible begins with my father’s Bible—its cracked spine, marked margins, and pages worn through years of use—and the steady after-dinner readings that shaped our family. From those ordinary moments comes a deeper question—what is being formed within us when we return to God’s Word again and again?

Rooted in Nehemiah 2:1–5 and Psalm 119:11, this Hearthside Study considers the prayer Nehemiah offered before answering the king, the preparation that preceded that moment, and what it means to hide God’s Word in our hearts. It explores how Scripture can move beyond familiar language to shape our thoughts, choices, and first responses when unexpected moments come.

Inside the 12-page designed PDF, you’ll find the original The Worn Bible essay, Scripture readings and context, eight guided study and reflection questions, personal reflection prompts, a closing prayer and application, and space for notes. The study can be worked through quietly on your own or shared informally with others around a table.

This download includes: one 12-page, full-color designed PDF for personal use.

Want to gather a group around the table? The Worn Bible | A Hearthside Gathering includes this study along with the complete host and gathering materials.
