Grieg - The Last Spring (arr. for trombone quartet)
An arrangement of Edvard Grieg's The Last Spring, originally from his Two Elegiac Pieces for string ensemble, Op. 34.
About 5 minutes in length, The Last Spring was originally a setting of a poem by Norwegian poet Aasmund
Olavsson Vinje for voice and piano, which Grieg later set for string ensemble. The poem that inspired this song, Varen, is written from the perspective of an elderly man who describes a scenic landscape in the early days of spring, while suggesting that this may be his final time witnessing the season. The lush harmonies that surround the melody build towards a beautiful flourish at the high point of the piece, making this chorale a wonderful addition to a recital program.
This edition is for four trombones.
