Liszt - Two Pieces (arr. for Trombone Quartet)
Wiegenlied (Cradle Song) is a piano piece written by Franz Liszt towards the end of his life. Known for his
virtuosic writing, the later work of Liszt is more reflective, more subdued. The gentle nature of this piece,
as well as its meandering solos, lay the groundwork for unconventional harmonies. The solo voice that ends
the piece is characteristic of Liszt’s writing during this time.
Throughout his career, Liszt wrote multiple settings of Pater Noster, the Lord’s Prayer in Christian practice.
This setting was originally written for chorus, and later arranged by the composer for solo piano in his
Harmonies poetiques et religieuses III (S.173)
