Reading For Fluency Book 1 CVC Words

Reading For Fluency is a series of decodable texts, written to accompany Level 2 of Reading Made Simple.

They were written for one of my older pupils (age 12) with a dyslexia statement, who had a lot of random phonic knowledge but had never gained fluency because he had never been given a book that contained only words that he could sound out. In addition, dyslexic pupils may have got into a habit of misreading similar words, and these books help to develop accuracy too.

I began at the beginning, to build fluency and with it confidence. This series is the result.

Please test for the ability to blend CVC and short vowel words with consonant blends before using this book. If this skill is not yet secure, please use my CVC Reading Books for Older Pupils.

They can help a child who has hitherto failed to become a fluent reader to do just that.

The words used in each book are from the sound families introduced in the programme, extending vocabulary from those listed just for spelling. As the child's spelling and writing progress, the reading can move faster.
