The Type 100 is a Japanese submachine gun developed during World War II and was the only mass-produced submachine gun used by the Imperial Japanese Army. Designed in 1940 and officially adopted in 1942, it was chambered in 8×22mm Nambu, the same cartridge used in Japanese service pistols like the Type 94 and Type 14, which helped with ammunition compatibility.

The Type 100 operated on a simple blowback mechanism and fired from an open bolt. It was fed by a 30-round detachable box magazine, mounted on the left side of the receiver. The early version of the weapon had a cyclic rate of around 450 rounds per minute, while the later versions had a cyclic rate of around 800 rounds per minute. The standard version featured a full wooden stock, while later models included a folding-stock paratrooper variant for airborne troops.
