Calon Cariad is a bottom up shawl with a deep lace border and a single heart motif near the top of the centre back. It has short row shaping to add depth to the shawl and is fully written with charts provided as well.

You can follow this shawl pattern either with the written instructions only or by using the charts for the lace sections. Please note that there are some rows (including all the short row shaping) not included in the charts, so please read the pattern in full before beginning.

My blue sample used 570m of John Arbon Textiles Alpaca 2-3ply. If your gauge is looser you are likely to need another skein.

Suggested Yarns: John Arbon Textiles Alpaca 2-3ply (90% alpaca, 10% nylon, 600m/100g) in Kingfisher, 1 skein OR Erika Knight Wool Local (100% wool, 450/100g), 1.5 skeins.

Needles: 4mm (US 6) x 100cm circular needle. (Wooden or bamboo needle tips are recommended with this yarn as it slips off metal needles very easily in the early stages.)

Notions: 22 stitch markers (including 2 contrasting ones for 11th and 12th markers),
Tapestry needle

Gauge: 10cm = 20 sts x 30 rows over blocked stocking stitch. 10cm = 19 sts x 26 rows over blocked lace pattern.
