3rd and Long - 1960s AFL Season Bundle
3rd and Long - The AFL Years 1960-69
Ten seasons of the league that was supposed to fold, and ended up taking over.
The AFL threw the ball about, signed the players the NFL wanted, forced a merger, and quickly started winning Super Bowls. Houston and Blanda scoring at will, Hank Stram in Kansas City, Al Davis in Oakland, Namath guaranteeing it in Miami. Ten seasons, all playable.
Every team sits on the same 1-20 scale as every NFL season in the range, worked out the same way from points scored and points allowed. No era adjustment and no conversion, so the 1968 Jets play the 1985 Bears straight (if you want to mix packs).
This bundle includes 10 complete 3rd and Long ratings packs:
1960 - Houston beat the Los Angeles Chargers 24-16 in the first title game.
1961 - Blanda throws 36 touchdowns, Houston score 513, and rate 20 on offense.
1962 - Dallas beat Houston in double overtime. The longest title game yet played.
1963 - San Diego take Boston apart 51-10. The only title the Chargers ever won.
1964 - Buffalo go 12-2 and beat San Diego for the first of two.
1965 - Buffalo do it again and shut San Diego out 23-0.
1966 - Kansas City win the AFL and go to Super Bowl I. Miami arrive and lose 11.
1967 - Oakland go 13-1 and bury Houston 40-7 before running into Green Bay.
1968 - Namath and the Jets. Kansas City concede 170 points all season.
1969 - The last AFL season. Kansas City win Super Bowl IV and go out on top.
Every season includes:
All team ratings - Offense & Defense on a 1-20 scale, calibrated against real points-for and points-against data from that season Season cover page with the year's headline stories Ratings CSV, for anyone who wants them in a spreadsheet or an app
Included once, and they work for every season:
Modifier lookup - every offense-versus-defense combination worked out in advance, home on one page, away on the other. No arithmetic at the table. Scoring charts - regular time and overtime, with a written outcome for every band, from a historic shutout to four touchdowns and counting Game playsheet, plus Rate Any Team and the offline Schedule Printer
One set of rules covers every season - no separate purchase needed.
These are ratings packs. There are no printed schedules: the AFL went from eight teams to ten inside a decade and changed its postseason on the way, so a printed bracket would be wrong for most of it. The free Schedule Printer (included) lays out the right one for whichever season you are playing.
What you need: Two d100 dice (or a d10 pair as percentile dice) and a pencil.
Ten seasons of the other league. Roll the whole decade.
Also available: The Sixties - these ten AFL seasons and the ten NFL seasons that ran alongside them, together in one download.
Part of the 3rd and Long series from TTX Sports - every decade from the 1950s to today on its own, plus The Complete NFL History, all 76 seasons in one download.
