BEATLES Love Me Do & Hessy's Record Store bag POSTER
Hessy's Music Centre in Liverpool was famous as the go-to shop where local musicians, including the Beatles, bought their musical instruments. The shop, run by Frank Hessy and Jim Gretty, allowed young musicians to purchase expensive gear through an "easy payment scheme" (hire purchase).
John Lennon bought his first guitar, a Rickenbacker, at Hessy's in 1957 and George Harrison purchased his first electric guitar, a Futurama, from the shop in 1959, which his mother signed a hire purchase agreement for and paid in 44 installments. Other members of the band also bought instruments on credit, and one of Brian Epstein's first actions as their manager was to settle their outstanding debts of around £200 with Hessy's.
Will look fantastic when framed.
