UK Edition: Reading Food Labels: Dates, Storage, SEND, KS4 and Post-16
Learners who are starting to cook or pack their own lunch ask the same questions: "Is this still okay?" "Does this go in the fridge?" "How much is one portion?" This set teaches them where to look on the pack. It sticks to reading the label, not food rules or diet advice.
What you get (13 pages plus an editable Word file)
• A teacher page
• 10 words to know, with pictures
• 3 pages of practice labels: date and storage labels on packs, a fridge check list with a leftovers label, and two nutrition panels
• 12 Level A questions with a picture and 3 choices
• The same 12 questions at Level B with written answers
• A real life task: check the dates in a real fridge or cupboard
• An answer key that shows where each answer is found
How I use it
We go over the words, then look at real empty packaging from home next to the practice labels. Learners answer at their level, and the real life task happens in the school kitchen or as homework. Made up brands only.
Who it is for: Life skills, independent living and food technology groups at KS4 and post 16, and supported internship programmes. It is reading practice only: learners should ask an adult when they are unsure.
Licence: one download covers one teacher. Please do not post the file online.
