Everything you need to teach Year 9 Electricity in the New Zealand Curriculum (Science, Phase 4, Matter Interactions and Energy). The summary notes, slideshows and worksheets all use the same diagrams, so students meet the same picture in their notes, on the slide and on the worksheet.

What's included:

  • Summary Notes: 40 pages, diagram-first, in eight sections plus an extension, with key ideas, common mistakes, check-yourself questions, a quick reference and every key word in English and te reo Māori.
  • Nine slideshows (PowerPoint and PDF): each opens with a starter problem and a predict–observe–explain, takes one idea per slide, and ends with mild, medium and spicy questions. Answers and teaching notes are in the speaker notes.
  • Nine worksheets with answer versions: questions built around diagrams, circuits and graphs, with teacher notes on every answer sheet.
  • Teacher guide, unit plan and equipment list: how to run the unit, curriculum links, teaching sequence, contexts, practicals and safety, assessment and differentiation, and a class-set equipment list.
  • Extras: an A3 poster that follows one raindrop from the hills to a classroom socket, a sample power bill for class, and a teacher sheet on why the grid uses high voltage.

The Word and PowerPoint files are editable, and every document has a PDF to print. Everything comes in a colour edition and a black-and-white edition for photocopying (the slideshows are in colour in both). The worked examples follow Ōtepoti Dunedin and the Waipori power scheme, and the unit plan shows how to swap in your own place.

Pairs with the Year 9 Electricity Assessment Pack, which is built on the same eight sections.

School licence: every teacher and student at one school may use and copy these files, including on your school's learning platform. Please don't share them outside your school.
