Field Guide 9 — First PT Session
Your first PT session is an interview, not a workout.
The questions you ask decide whether you have found a coach or a fitness salesperson. This guide tells you what to verify (credentials, training philosophy, whether they actually fit you) and the red flags to walk away from: physique used as a qualification, transformation promises, no documentation, refusing to answer questions, and the immediate package upsell. A qualified coach will not pressure you into signing a contract on day one. A typical session runs twenty-five to a hundred pounds, worth every penny if the coach is good and worth nothing if they are not. You are paying, the hour is yours, and this is how you spend it without getting talked into a four-thousand-pound package.
