This patchwork project is a great introduction to the traditional hand sewing technique of English paper-piecing. With the modern methods of glue-basting and the flat back stitch, this craft is more enjoyable than ever. This 'slow sewing' project is perfect for some relaxing 'me time' and is so portable you can take it anywhere - a long car journey, to your quilt group, or even on holiday, anywhere where you can enjoy this therapeutic craft.

Skill level: Skilled beginner

Finished size: Approx. 19" (48cm) square

You will need:

As you can see above, there are a couple of layout options to make this cushion, or you can even design your own using the colouring-in diagram included.

• Depending on which layout version you choose to make, you will need either nineteen 4.5" squares, or five 4.5" x WOF (width of fabric) strips in co-ordinating prints

• One fat quarter of background fabric

• 19 pre-cut paper templates - this digital pattern includes a template sheet to use to make your own EPP papers, or you can purchase packs of precision-cut papers at Sewmotion.com here.

• Embroidery thread if you wish to hand quilt

• Temporary fabric Glue Pen which you can purchase here or get refills here

• Thread for piecing - I suggest a 50wt for piecing and machine quilting

• 20" square of wadding and of butter muslin if you are hand-quilting

• 50cm cushion backing and a 22" cushion pad.

Make sure to read the whole pattern all the way through before beginning your project.
