Cathkin cowl was inspired by mountain biking and is named after the location used for mountain biking in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games: the Cathkin Braes.
🚴🚲🚵
The cowl uses a combination of intarsia and stranded colourwork – the mountains and sky are joined using intarsia, while the tyre tracks and finish line involve small floats across the back of the work and intarsia twists at the beginning/end of their section. The cowl is worked back and forth, end to end, with increases/decreases making the work slant. The ends are then grafted together.

Part of the commonwealth cowls series -- inspired by the Commonwealth Games coming to my then home city of Glasgow in 2014! 💚
