This song comes directly from the time I spent working with teenagers who were caught up in substance misuse. I wanted to tell the story from the perspective of someone trapped in that relentless cycle of addiction, where every day is a battle they didn't choose to fight.
I used a lot of vivid imagery and the actual slang I heard on the streets to get across that raw sense of escapism, mixed with the deep shame and desperation that follows it. The lyrics talk about that internal tug-of-war—where you know deep down that you need to change, but the addiction feels like this overwhelming force that's just too heavy to move. It’s an honest look at how incredibly difficult it is to break free once the system has its hooks in you.
