BUILD IT. CRASH IT. REBUILD IT.

The Balsa Bombshell is a balsa chuck glider designed to come apart when it hits the ground — and go back together in seconds. No snapped fuselage, no ruined afternoon. The wing is held on with elastic bands, so on impact it dismantles instead of breaking. Pick up the pieces, clip it back together, throw it again.

It's a real build with real tools, and it fits in a shoebox when you're done.

WHAT YOU GET (instant download) Full size A3 PDF plans, scaled 1:1 for direct tracing onto balsa, including:

• Before-you-start checklist

• Complete list of tools required

• Comprehensive safety instructions

• List of part names

• Layout plan

• Cutting plans

• Step-by-step assembly instructions

• Flying instructions and throwing technique

Printing on A4 or US Letter? Supported — you transfer the dimensions from the plans to the balsa rather than tracing at 1:1.

THE FINISHED AIRCRAFT

Wingspan 396 mm

Length 259 mm

Height 96 mm

BUILD TIME

About 90 minutes of hands-on work, plus glue drying time. Use PVA and wait overnight, or use super glue and wait minutes — your call.

AGE GUIDE

Ages 10+ with adult supervision. Ages 12+ can build independently. A craft knife is required, and the plans include full cutting, workspace, glue, tool and flight safety notes.

YOU'LL NEED TO SUPPLY

Tools: HB or softer pencil (or a fine pen), 300mm steel rule, cutting board or mat, craft/hobby knife, set square, sanding block with fine sandpaper, pins.

Materials: balsa sheets (1.5, 2.5, 3, 5 and 12mm), wood glue, 2 small elastic bands, and a blob of Blu Tack for balancing (about the size of a large marble — you'll work out the exact amount when you trim the plane).

All available from any hobby or craft shop.

WHY PARENTS BUY IT

• A proper supervised school-holiday project

• Stores in a shoebox

• A genuine alternative to screen time

• Teaches measuring, cutting, patience and a bit of aerodynamics

• Crashing is part of the design, not the end of it

HOW IT WORKS

Your download is available immediately after purchase. Print the plans, trace the components onto balsa, cut, glue the wing, glue the rear fuselage and stabiliser, band it together, balance it, and fly.
