Peacock-inspired beaded lace is the focal point of this dramatic sleeved wrap, worked as a rectangle end to end with sleeves added afterward. Wear it as a generous waterfall cardigan, or throw the long end over your shoulder (with or without a shawl pin) to display the lace to full effect.
The main body and sleeves are worked in reverse stocking stitch, showing off the beauty of a lustrous hand-dyed yarn, with columns of eyelets to define the long edges and dramatic, deep lace borders.
Lace instructions are charted as well as written.
Construction notes:
Starting with a provisional cast-on, you work up the left front, shaping the armscye with short rows and using waste yarn to mark the sleeve placement, then work straight across the back and down the long right front, finally returning to your provisional cast-on to add the lace border to the left front. Stitches are then picked up for the sleeves, with short-row shaping of sleeve caps.
For perfect custom sizing, work a longer or shorter portion between the armholes (use your exact shoulder-to-shoulder measurement. You can also easily adjust the length of each front, either by working a shorter/longer stocking stitch portion or with more or fewer repeats of the lace pattern.
Beads are placed on the stitch as you go, using a crochet hook or sewing needle. Tutorials are provided.
Sizing: This garment is highly adjustable. The four sizes provided correspond roughly to bust measurements of 90 (100, 110, 120) cm / 36 (40, 44, 48) in – HOWEVER the construction method means the front lengths and cross-back width can easily be adapted as you go to fit your exact proportions.
I modelled size L; I usually wear a UK size 16 (European size 44, US size 12).
I recommend choosing a size based on the upper arm measurement, allowing ease:
33.5 (37, 40.5, 44.5) cm / 13.25, 14.5, 16, 17.5) in.
Gauge: 28 sts x 40 rows = 10cm / 4in square in stocking stitch, after blocking

Sample uses Dublin Dye Silken Lace (55% Bluefaced Leicester, 45% silk; 800m / 875 yards per 100g skein): 3 skeins in Petrol.
3.5mm / US4 needles
3.5mm / US4 DPNs, or your preferred needles for small circumferences in the round. Note: be sure to check your gauge both flat and in the round, and choose needles for both sections accordingly.
