Sophie baby bonnet

Construction
Sophie bonnet is sized for babies and toddlers. The intricate Japanese lace is easier to knit than it looks. Tubular Cast-on gives the edge around the face gentle ribbing and is stretchy enough to be comfortable for babies. I-cord ties that gently become lower edges give the bonnet an elegant finished look.

Newborn (3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 24 months)

Materials
Designed for DK weight yarn in solid or semisolid colors.
Both samples are shown in Drops Cotton Merino (120y/110m/50g).

Yarn necessary
• 66 (81, 88, 104, 110) meters;
• 72 (89, 96, 114, 120) yards.
Additional 37 m / 40 y / 17 g of yarn required to
make a pattern sample (one repeat of pattern A).

Gauge
24.6 sts x 30 rows = 10cm/4in in chart A lace pattern.

Finished measurements
To fit head circumference: 34.5 (40.5, 43, 45.5, 48.5) cm or 13½ (16, 17, 18, 19) in 
Length of bonnet outer edge (ear to ear): 30.5 (35.5, 37, 42, 43.5) cm or 12¼ (14¼, 14¾, 16¾, 17½) in
Depth of the bonnet: 15.5 (20, 20, 20.5, 21.5) cm or 6¼ (8, 8, 8¼, 8½) in

Needles
US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles or dpns (or size to
obtain gauge).

Required techniques
i-cord, lace without rest rows, knitting in the round, tubular cast on with waste yarn
